Unison Rights - Software Development

THE project

At Nakima we have developed a platform that allows the management of musical rights for our client Unison. This platform is a case of prize awarded at Sónar + D and allows managing works for publishers and authors receiving a fairer settlement of the royalties generated.

Challenge

For this project, the client proposed the need to create innovative software with requirements and specifications somewhat different from current systems.

The client wanted to develop a platform that would revolutionize the management of music rights. This platform, had to allow both publishers and authors to manage their works, consult the use and consumption of these and receive a settlement for the royalties generated.

Thus, the challenge was to build a storage system for the works with the most complete information to control their rights. Then, design all the necessary logic to manage the distribution of royalties generated by the works in addition to the control tools on these.

Solution

To face a challenge of these characteristics, Nakima proposed to the Client to begin a collaboration with the Nakima Method, a format that allows the client to collaborate with Nakima as their technological team, which is ideal for innovation projects as was the case.

Then, after some design and product definition phases, it was decided to develop a web-based platform that allows the submission of files and the creation of new catalogs, tracking of uses in the works and summary of royalties that have generated said works .

All this was approached as a fully customized development, using technologies such as Angular for an agile and dynamic Front-End combined with a set of microservices managed with docker. The part of the Backend was implemented with NodeJS and Typescript, where all the logic that is finally registered in a PostgreSQL database is encoded.

About Unison

Unison is a startup whose purpose is to distribute more quickly, clearly and transparently the royalties derived from the reproduction of musical pieces. At Nakima we started to get involved in the initial stages of the project, where we guided Unison on the best technologies to use, including Blockchain.
