The instruments in a microbiology lab run for years on embedded Linux systems. That software ages: the operating system falls out of date, storage becomes vulnerable if a device ends up in the wrong hands, and a low-level fault can leave an instrument already sold and in use out of service. Solving it requires a skill set that doesn’t always justify keeping in-house.
We provide the embedded systems engineering the in-house team didn’t cover: hardening and encrypting storage and the file system, upgrading the operating system through kernel cross-compilation, evaluating new hardware platforms, and diagnosing kernel- and driver-level faults on site.
The instruments remain operational, up to date and protected, with a support relationship sustained for more than a decade without needing to bring that skill set in-house.
